As some of our City's most accessible public health resources, we are writing to share some exciting news about DOHMH efforts to expand access to overdose prevention and naloxone throughout New York City.
Starting this week, participating pharmacies throughout the 5 boroughs will be able to dispense naloxone without a prescription. This has been made possible under the leadership of Health Commissioner Mary T. Bassett, who has issued a non-patient specific prescription (or "standing order") for naloxone. Mayor DeBlasio will announce this new initiative today as part of a comprehensive package to address the opioid epidemic in New York. Pleaseview this press release for more details. A list of currently participating pharmacies (updated regularly) can be foundhere.
If you or your pharmacy is interested in dispensing naloxone as part of this new initiative, it's easy to get started! Everything you need to sign up can be found on the DOHMH website'sNaloxone and Overdose Prevention in Pharmacies page.
