Medication Safety in Pharmacy Practice

Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

·Define the problem of medication errors;

·Describe the difference communication can make in preventing medication errors;

·List the causes of medication errors in pharmacy practice;

·Describe how root cause analysis and failure mode and effect analysis can help prevent errors in community pharmacy;

·Describe how automation, eprescribing, and other technology can affect medication errors in community pharmacy;

·Describe common medication error prevention tips and tools;

·List examples of how medication error reduction techniques can improve patient safety in community pharmacy.

Review of Laws, Rules & Regulations in NY Pharmacy Practice

Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

·Describe the naloxone prescribing requirements for pharmacists;

·Discuss the change to medical marijuana;

·Describe the new prescribing laws for opioids;

·Recognize current trends of prescription drug diversion;

·Describe recent pharmacy cases involving registrants;

·List recent changes to laws and regulations for controlled substances;

·Describe the latest trends in the NY Pharmacy Practice with NYS Board of Pharmacy Update.



Statement of credit will be submitted electronically to NABP and will indicate hours and CEUs based on the participant’s attendance and completion rate only for those attendees who sign the attendance list, fill out the evaluation forms and submit the learning assessment at the conclusion of the seminar. The credits should be listed on NABP’s website automatically in 60 days.
