Knowledge Based Activity

 Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

•  identify the key issues which pharmacy benefit managers audit during routine pharmacy investigations and audits;

•  describe the actions taken by various government agencies when overpayments are identified in audits of pharmacies;

•  identify the process needed for confirmation of the eligibility of the prescribers who submit prescriptions under state or federal prescription programs;

•  define the role of DEA Diversion personnel who enforce pharmaceutical federal laws under the Controlled Substances Act and related DEA regulations;

•  identify examples of civil actions and fines resulting from the DEA registrant’s failure to maintain complete and accurate records and an accurate controlled substance inventory;

•  identify each element of a DEA inspection which includes required DEA records security of controlled substances and the requisite due diligence for dispensing controlled substances;

•  describe and define the results of a revocation of a pharmacy DEA registration by citing the most recent results of DEA administrative hearings.
