At the completion of this activity the participant will be able to:
- identify specific examples of patients that require acute opioid therapy that could otherwise be at risk of developing a chronic pain syndrome due to neuroplasticity;

- recognize and describe patient variables to predict risk for opioid abuse or misuse prior to and following surgery;

- recognize, design and modify medication regimens to safely predict opioid equivalent, maximize opioid efficacy and minimize risk with consideration to drug interactions, expected analgesic efficacy and pharmacogenetics;

- review and evaluate the value of urine drug screens perioperatively and for COT.
