At the conclusion of this activity the participant will be able to:

Ø  Describe the current state of adult vaccine preventable diseases in the United States;

Ø  Discuss the biological impact of aging on immunity;

Ø  Identify current immunization recommendations for influenza, pneumococcal, herpes zoster and pertussis in the older adult;

Ø  Cite the safety and efficacy of the influenza, pneumococcal, herpes zoster and pertussis vaccines in the older adult;

Ø  Identify the role of the pharmacist in increasing immunization rates and overcoming barriers in the older adult population.
