Pharmacists Responsibility for Patient Safety & Proper Medication Management

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- discuss the frequency of occurrence of medication errors and the estimated costs to the healthcare system in the United States;
- define medication errors, and common types and causes that occur in pharmacies;
- describe inattentional blindness and ways to avoid errors in dispensing;
- list the key elements of medication use and benefit associated with each;
- recognize common errors in electronic  prescriptions and identify the appropriate interventions needed;
- discuss the importance of liability insurance and the risk associated with errors;
- identify reference sources available to pharmacists for more information.
